Shelburne was founded in the early 1860s as a part of Melanchthon and was incorporated as a town in 1877. According to Canada’s 2016 Census, Shelburne is the fastest growing town in Ontario and the second fastest growing town in all of Canada.
Because of this, there has been consistent development of subdivisions and homes throughout the town. Shelburne has its downtown core at the intersection of Highway 10 (Owen Sound Street) and Highway 89 (Main Street). Most of the houses near the downtown core are turn of the century homes and some of these homes have Heritage designation. Other homes in Shelburne will vary in age, from the early 1900s to brand-new developments. The population has grown and diversified, bringing new life into the old town.
